Ecowaste Coalition, in coordination with PNOC-AFC, conducted a two-day Information Education and Communication (IEC) Seminar in Lou-is Restaurant in Balanga City, Bataan last February 11-12, 2010. The first day of the IEC was attended by representatives from Non-Government and People’s Organizations, Professional Organizations and the Academe. On the second day, attendees were from Local Government Units (LGUs). United Nations Industrial Development Organization’s (UNIDO) country representative, Mr. Suresh Raj, and POPs Project Country Manager, Ms. Leah Texon were present. The speakers of the two-day seminar were from DENR EMB, UNIDO, PNOC-AFC and Ecowaste Coalition. The seminar gave an update on the progress of the on-going UN-supported “Non-combustion POPs Project” which aims to safely and ecologically eliminate the country’s polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) wastes in view of our obligations to the Stockholm Convention on POPs and the Chemical Control Order (CCO) on PCBs.
Working on the theme, “Global Program to Demonstrate Viability and Removal of Barriers that Impede Adoption and Successful Implementation of Available Non-Combustion Technologies for Destroying POPs,” the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) hosted the country’s first Stakeholders’ Forum at the Hotel Rembrandt in Quezon City on February 17, 2010.
The Philippine National Oil Company – Alternative Fuels Corporation (PNOC-AFC) conducted a General Assembly (GA) for the Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Project in Barangay Batangas Dos in Mariveles, Bataan on May 9 to educate the host community about the POPs project and to discuss their other concerns relative to operation of the PNOC-AFC Industrial Park in the area.
