Recognizing the magnitude and urgency of the mandate, the PNOC-AFC developed a roadmap that would facilitate the development and utilization of alternative fuels in the country specifically biofuels. As an initial step to the biofuels roadmap, the PNOC-AFC is putting forward a pioneering biodiesel project with the establishment of an integrated jatropha nursery, plantation, as well as biodiesel production and other related facilities.

The PNOC-AFC started its Integrated Jatropha Biodiesel Project to ensure stable and sustainable supply of feedstock and lower production cost while rendering utmost benefits/returns to the stakeholders. It began to serve as a catalyst in biofuels production using cheaper indigenous feedstocks. The Company has considered jatropha, a non-food crop, as its primary feedstock for biodiesel production.

To date, the PNOC-AFC has developed its own research-based and financially-viable business model with a strong collaboration with the academe, scientists and financial experts in the country. The PNOC-AFC intends to forge partnership with local and foreign investors on refinery and other alternative energy technologies.
